Feel your way to better golf

Feeling how you position and move your body and the club before and while swinging is possibly one of the most important fundamentals in golf. Now, the easiest way to do that is by moving SLOWLY. Slowing down will improve any golf swing.

I know, I know. You want to hit it far, and you might think that by slowing down you won’t be able to accomplish that task, but I assure you, you must learn to go slow before you go fast. Let me explain.

Firstly, if you go at it too fast, you won’t feel a damn thing. The faster you swing the tighter your whole body gets. The tighter you are, the less conscious you become because a tight muscle is a dumb muscle (less proprioceptive).

Secondly, the swing is a series of specific and synchronized movements where you must create forces and then immediately let those forces express themselves and lead your way through. A controlled movement (which requires a form of tension) is always followed by a relaxation phase or release of tension.

As an example, when you move your trunk and hip away from the ball at the beginning of your swing, you must move those segments very slowly because their role is not to move fast but rather transfer energy to your soft arms that follow suit.

Now if you try to start the motion fast, your arms which are six times faster than your body will get tight and lead the entire motion, which is never good for someone who’s looking for a complete and sequenced body movement.

Finally, when you go too fast, become too tight, ain’t feeling a thing you won’t be able to create a graceful movement originating from that tensionrelease balance creating a timing sequence. Most importantly, slowing down will enhance all your senses and consequently you’ll increase your awareness of what you’re doing.

Have fun!
