A flamboyance of flamingos

While visions of sugar-plum fairies dance in many heads around the holiday season, I am thinking more about flamingos.

Pretty in pink

Known for their slender long legs and necks, flamingos are most recognizable by their party-pink feathers. While pink is my favorite colour, and I have way more than a few rose-colored boas and snazzy hot-blush sneakers, their color is not the only reason I’ve got flamingos on my mind.

A few years back, scientists discovered that, like humans, flamingos form long-lasting, stable and loyal friendships that endure a lifetime. My own very non-scientific studies have found the same.

Without regard to shape, size, beauty or age, the birds seek out buddies they get along with. They are open-minded with a vibrant, fun and expressive personality. Forming expansive colonies, the flamingos gather in large numbers which provide security as they watch out for one another.

Birds of a feather

I have discovered a flamboyance of flamingos in Mont-Tremblant. Amazing, vibrant and supportive birds that are always open for an adventure.

Whether it is aerial yoga, ju-jitsu, snowshoeing, ice skating, trail running, fat biking, paddle boarding or classical ballet, a fabulous flock of fun-loving flamingos are always primed to fly into action.

I’ve learned some valuable lessons from the local birds over the years. Stand tall. Be flexible. Get your feet wet whenever possible. Strive for balance. Don’t get your feathers ruffled over little things.

Above all…sing after the rain…and always be fabulously flocking flamazing.

Let’s flamingle

As we nestle into a new year, embrace your inner flamingo. Spread your wings with your flock. Accept your uniqueness and dare to get outside the boundaries of your comfort zone.

In a world with way too many pigeons, be a flamingo.
