Making warm memories in the cold

If you are seeking to experience the magic of winter, look no further than Lac Mercier.

Nicely iced

Whether you are seven or seventy, the ice slide on the shore of Lac Mercier is a must this winter. All you need is a sense of adventure and a slippery backside, and you’re ready for an afternoon of fun.

The delighted squeals of children, parents and grandparents as they slide down the double-chute ice slide is what joyous winter memories are made of. A few go head first with sheets of cardboard under their tummies to make sliding a bit faster, but most use nothing but snow pants and gravity to hit the bottom of the slide with a smile.

Walking on water

Adding to the magical atmosphere is a 1K winter walking loop on the frozen lake, the result of a pilot project initiated by the Ville de Mont Tremblant.

Although it is an enjoyable stroll in the daylight hours, the evening is when this icy walkway is absolute magic.

It’s just past the gazebo at the edge of the pier. Lit by strings of soft lights that bring the ice-covered lake alive, the path – and the snow just beyond it – glitter under the night sky. The pathway is marked with pine trees, and there are a few benches where visitors can sit and rest a while if they wish. The view onto the lake is just breathtaking under the moonlight.

While it is not the ice-skating rink of past years that many folks loved, it’s a nice compromise to manage a changing climate that makes the ice consistency and surface more unpredictable.

The unique frozen path provides an opportunity for a glorious evening walk and a perfect chance to enjoy the lake in a whole new way this winter.
