EthicDrinks Touraine Vague de Loire 2019

From potato glue to attach the labels to delivery trucks burning ethanol made from grape pomace, the young couple Camille and Mickaël Alborghetti are determined to reduce their carbon footprint.

They are the instigators of EthicDrinks, a startup which “eco-evaluates” the most minor stages of the production and distribution of wines created in collaboration with organic-certified wine-producers. Let’s see what their sauvignon is about.

With a grassy nose atop aromas of stone fruits, it is exempt of the fragrance typical of boxwood. Shockingly ropey, it reveals a mouth fresh with lime and new-cut parsley. Both juicy and slim, it is more eco-responsible than the general market.

St Hubertus Riesling Okanagan Valley 2020

Lovers of grand cru riesling, come a-running! Take advantage of the end of lobster season for this excellent pairing. The St. Hubertus Riesling from Okanagan Valley surprises through its similarity to some Alsatian crus that are more evolved and marked with the molecule *TDN, responsible for flavours reminiscent of hydrocarbon. You either love it or you hate it.

Lively as it should be, this Canadian riesling charms with its flavours of Ginger Gold, honey and lime which tickle the tastebuds. A salty and sapid finish.

Silvio Messana Montesecondo 2021

Amphibians are sensitive to pesticides. Hearing them in a vineyard is a sign of eco-responsible wine-growing. Which is why Silvio Messana, owner of Montesondo, has chosen to crown a toad on the label of his 100 percent sangiovese.

Clearer than its Tuscan neighbours, its clarity intrigues the eye. All is revealed, however, by the nose. What a bouquet! A harvest of wild fruits with hints of undergrowth and rosebuds. The charm continues with a fresh, ample and rich mouth: utterly delectable.

Each mouthful asks for another.
