Flexible in mind and body

Golfing seniors know that with time, the flexibility of body and mind diminish, to be replaced by rigidity, or even intransigence.  What results are drives imbued with  excessive tensions that limit the range and ease of movement.

If senior golfers are not aware of these tensions and thus able to make use of them, they risk suffering from stiffness, eventual injuries, and an irregular performance pattern.

When you watch our junior champions, you can admire their flexibility of body and mind.

Martin Côté.

Flexible of temperament, because they are exposed to changes and are naturally open to new experiences, juniors are agile, daring, and “players”. Their drives are characterized by flexibility of the upper body, notably in the back of the neck, the shoulders and the arms.

This absence of upper body stiffness is the main activator of the swing (hips and trunk) rather than the main inhibitor.

These appropriate tensions allow the hips to be more mobile during the backswing and, particularly, much more engaged during the downswing and the finish of the swing.

Accomplishing their work as leader, as much in the backswing as in the downswing, the hips in turn lead the trunk, which brings the arms into a perfect sequence.

Our juniors’ graceful swings are led by the centre of their bodies, not by the extremities. Our juniors naturally adjust all types of tensions before, during and after the swing.

Seniors would benefit from imitating our best juniors by relaxing the nape of the neck, the shoulders and arms. Their hips could then activate movement throughout their backswing and downswing. It’s crucially important in terms of achieving a supple, graceful movement.
