New physiotherapy program for Mont-Tremblant

A brand-new program in Techniques of Physiotherapy will welcome twenty or so students to the Centre collégial de Mont-Tremblant (CCMT) for the fall 2024 session.

During their college period, which will last three years, the Techniques of Physiotherapy students will be led to develop their clinical judgment, ability to adapt, and participation in making the profession better known. The program, in fact, aims to train technologists with substantial autonomy and a good sense of collaboration. The students will be able, for instance, to have the benefit of real experience with real patients. From their first year in the program, they will experience 15 hours of immersion in a workplace so they can confirm their choice of career.

“We’re one of the rare college centres to provide this,” explains Jean-Pascal Beauchamp, teacher and physiotherapist. “It’s a very practical approach to learning. We provide 750 hours of work placement, which is the maximum amount that the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur grants us. Our program also provides certification in first aid from the first year, which allows the students to offer their services for local sporting events,” Mr. Beauchamp explains.

In addition to obtaining an unequalled environment for these students, the technique responds to a major need for this health discipline, in which numerous would-be college students are refused because of a lack of spaces every year. The CCMT will thus provide an alternative for the many young people who want to study this discipline, as well an inestimable human resource in the field of readaptation in the Laurentians area.

For this to materialize, the CCMT program Techniques de physiothérapie has been able to rely on the contribution of Véronique Bonin (educational counsellor), Jean-Pascal Beauchamp (teacher and physiotherapist) and Catherine Ricard (director of the centre collégial de Mont-Tremblant). In closing, it should be mentioned that the City of Mont-Tremblant and the Fondation médicale des Laurentides have provided significant support, without which this program could not have become a reality.
