The Canadian Ski Hall of Fame & Museum (CSHFM) recently announced its 2023 inductees. Among the ten individuals honoured are three persons well known within the Tremblant ski community: Conrad Guay, Roger McCarthy and Joey Lavigne.

Conrad Guay was the ski school director at Manoir Pinoteau in the early 1970s and went on to direct the Mont Tremblant ski school from 1973 to 1989. Conrad was a Level 4 Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance examiner and a member of the National Technical Committee. During his tenure, he greatly enhanced the advancement of teaching methods and ski technique. Following eighteen stellar years as ski school director, Conrad transitioned to coaching racing with the Mont Tremblant Ski Club, the Laurentian Ski Zone, Quebec Ski Team, and the Canadian National Ski Team, where he had a profound impact on the development of high-level ski racers. He had an amazing ability to motivate his athletes, help them to succeed and to reach their full potential. He successfully coached his three sons, Kristian, Erik and Stefan.  All reached the National Team level. Sadly, on October 7, 2021, Tremblant lost a dear friend far too soon. He was 82.

Roger McCarthy was chosen by Intrawest 1991 to undertake the major task of rebuilding Mont Tremblant and completing the courageous project initiated by Joseph Bondurant Ryan in 1936. As a Kiwi arriving in Quebec with high school French, Roger rose to the occasion and quickly won the heart of the locals and the respect of his co-workers. Under Roger’s management and with a $100 million investment, Mont Tremblant became the number #1 ski resort in Eastern North America. Roger went on to hold executive positions with Vail Resorts in Colorado and oversaw operations at Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Keystone and Heavenly Valley in California. Roger resigned from Vail Resorts in 2007 to take on a leading role in the development of Rosa Khutor, the Alpine site of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. Following a remarkable fifty-year career, Roger has returned to Whistler where it all began in 1972.

Joey Lavigne is a life-time coach and his dedication, knowledge and commitment to ski racing has impacted his athletes, coaches, parents and officials throughout his impressive coaching career. He was a Canadian National Ski Team athlete, a former coach with the Mont Tremblant Ski Club and has held head coach and program director positions with the Alberta and Ontario Provincial Ski Teams and the Canadian National Alpine Ski Team. Joey is currently the National Capital Outaouais FIS head coach, a position he has held since 2011. Joey grew up skiing on the slopes of Mont Tremblant and later resided there for 18 years with his wife Kate and their three children before relocating to Ottawa. He will always consider Tremblant his home.
