Dogs that play in good company

Located in Labelle on a superb field, Frisbee Canin Laurentides hosts its members from spring till fall for competition and training workshops on techniques of throwing and of dog training, but in particular, for spending some quality time with one’s pet.

Frisbee Canin Laurentides, a member of the international organization “Toss & Fetch”, has worked since 2017 to promote this recreational activity in our area. Equipped with high-end facilities which include an enclosed, well-lighted, flat field, the initiative currently has twenty or so members.

“People come from quite a distance,” explain Cara Smeeton and Stéphane Paradis, respectively captain and co-captain of the club. “Members can choose to come play on Sundays or Mondays,” Cara notes.

Here’s how it works. The more times the dog catches the frisbee, the more points the team gets. Distance is also a determining factor. The score is increased if the dog has all four feet in the air when it catches the frisbee. This recreational activity is open to all, as newcomers benefit from a point system that allows them to be competitive against more experienced rivals.

“What I like about the sport is the way everyone works together, which allows me to develop with my dog,” explains Manuela B. Erba, member since June 2022. “Since we’ve been playing with the club, my dog is less reactive and gets less disorganized by distractions. I also really appreciate the human team around the field, our impassioned captains and other dog owners, and the advice and support given and received during the matches; it’s truly priceless. This is a real family,” says Manuela.
