Ironman Mont-Tremblant: a 7th edition full of surprises
CANADIAN CODY BEALS AND AUSTRALIAN LIZ BLATCHFORD WIN THE IRONMAN MONT-TREMBLANT
Subaru IRONMAN Mont-Tremblant presented by Sportium brought together approximately 2,800 triathletes, a record number of registrations for the 7th edition of the event, which crowned champions Canadian Cody Beals and Australian Liz Blatchford.
Avec un temps de 8:10:36, Beals qui prenait part à son premier IRONMAN a établi un nouveau record de parcours, 14 minutes devant le Canadien Lionel Sanders, grand favori de cette course. Lionel Sanders, originaire de Windsor en Ontario, a terminé en deuxième place avec un temps de 8:24:01 tandis que l’Américain Matt Russell a complété le podium en troisième place avec un temps de 8:25:14.
Quebec’s Antoine Jolicoeur-Desroches, who finished first in the swim event, held third place in the race before being overtaken by Matt Russell at the very end of the marathon. He came fourth with a time of 8:28:40.
For the women, Liz Blatchford’s win in the women’s race, with a time of 9:16:45, marks her first victory in Tremblant and her fifth in career.Lauren Brandon from the United States stepped on the podium in second place with a time of 9:18:02 while Meredith Kessler also from the United States achieved third position with a time of 9:23:09.
Cash prizes totaling $60,000 were awarded to the top-performing professionals, as well as 40 sought-after qualifying group-age slots for the iconic 2018 IRONMAN World Championship Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, which will take place on October 13. Selected athletes include Tremblant Express columnist Tony O’Keeffe, who was first in the 55-59 age group with 146 competitors. He finished the race with a time of 9:51:28.
