The daughter of Laura Scully Joncas and Louis Joncas, (passionate skiers, founders and former owners of Northland), Anne-Marie Joncas participated in the fourth Winter Youth Olympic Games, which took place from January 19 to February 1 in the province of Gangwon, South Korea.

On December 9 and 10, during an FIS ski cross competition at Nakiska, Alberta, Anne-Marie took two medals – the bronze and the silver – in as many races. Her success in the two qualifying events, which showed great strength, consistency and speed, evidently impressed the decision-makers of Alpine Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee. It’s worth noting that Anne-Marie is the only Whistlerite on the Canadian ski cross team to have participated in the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

The Youth Olympic Games formula is identical to that of the Olympic Games and represents a multisport games experience for athletes aged 15 to 18. Born in Mont-Tremblant, Anne-Marie – age 17 – was part of our community until 2016, before moving to Whistler with her family. She returns every summer to Mont-Tremblant to enjoy the place where she spent her early years and still has warm friendships.
