Thomas Hinse, teacher and film-maker

Amateur film-maker Thomas Hinse is crossing his fingers that his two most recent short films will be included in the programming of festivals in Québec and internationally. This artist, a Mont-Tremblant native, hopes in this way to boost his company, “Les productions du cerf noir”, to a professional level, while continuing his career as a teacher.

Last November, Thomas presented his films “L’ouverture” and “Les instants de pouvoir” to a faithful audience in Gatineau and Val-Morin. In the Théâtre du Marais viewing room, the Curé-Mercure teachers could see for themselves the progress Thomas has made since his first works at school: a play, a musical and his first film, “Le pacte des insouciants”, which he shot in Secondaire 4.

The most impressive aspect of Thomas Hinse’s productions is the way he brings people together. With a small budget and a lot of help, he creates captivating, believable content. When he was filming “Les instants du pouvoir”, a long-lasting shot of a hockey game was successful because of the cooperation of many young hockey players, their parents, videographer Jean Ladouceur, and courtesy of the Riviere-Rouge arena. Film graduate Annabel Boivin did the photographic direction of “L’ouverture”, which includes several paranormal effects. In all, one hundred or so volunteers participated in these two short films, including several stage actors recruited in the Laurentians.

A full-time elementary school teacher, Thomas Hinse spends his free time writing screen plays, editing, sound mixing and looking for sponsors. He is currently preparing his next film, about the daily life of teachers. Using a narrated storyline and heightening tension, Thomas hopes to illustrate how much this occupation has changed in the past twenty years.
