Let’s keep in touch between issues

You may have noticed that Tremblant Express – like all Canadian media outlets – has disappeared from your Facebook news feed. If you follow the news, you know that Meta (Facebook and Instagram) now block Canadian media content to protest Bill C-18, which aims to “reinforce equity between the media outlets and the online communication platforms”.

As a result, local media like ours can no longer communicate with their readership between issues. It may seem trifling or insignificant, but above all, it’s the community that pays the price. We were used to relating a number of cultural, sports-related and general interest items on our Facebook page, particularly when the information arrived too late for paper publication. Now what do we do?

The idea of sharing the revenues of the Web giants with the media outlets – whose revenue sources have diminished considerably – was not bad in itself. But that’s without taking into account that Meta allowed the media to publish its content free so that it would be shared with the greatest possible number. In other words, Facebook was doing us – us and our community – a great service that was, again, completely free.

Which is why a number of media outlets are turning to X (formerly Twitter) and given that we would really like to stay in touch with you between issues, we decided to do the same.

Please cut us some slack; we are just getting started with X. You can, therefore, admire the result of – or laugh at – our first-ever coverage of the Tremblant World Cup where we did everything possible to offer you professional coverage of this event, which is so important to our lovely part of the planet.

Looking forward to twittering, or chirping, or warbling (or should we say “Xing”) with you.
