Ratatouille & Namasté : A super-cool day camp

For a second consecutive year, the day camp called Ratatouille et Namasté was held at the Domaine Saint-Bernard, providing youngsters with a week of play, cooking and outdoor yoga. “It was the highlight of the summer for my two girls,” one father enthused. He was delighted by the unusual youth-centred experience, which ran from Monday, August 20 to Friday, August 24.

Besides arriving home with dancing eyes and a grin from ear to ear, the young people who participated in the camp had the distinct pleasure of bringing supper home to their parents. “The children do everything themselves,” notes Magali Le Brech, alias Namasté, children’s yoga teacher at M-Yoga.

Initiation into cooking and yoga

The children started their day by meditating and re-centering. The goal was to take them into a state of fulfilment and promote their concentration. Because after that, they were initiated into cooking by the chef who is Magali’s spouse, Sébastien Savre, alias Ratatouille.

Fully equipped with an apron, chef’s toque – the high white hat – and diving goggles to protect their eyes when they were cutting onions, the children made a variety of dishes and appetizers that they could take home. “And it was really good,” added the dad previously mentioned.

In the afternoon, the children took an introductory yoga and meditation course featuring simple postures appropriate to their age and stage. Outdoor games and activities wound up the day.

Twelve children participated in this second annual camp. With the success of the format well established, Ratatouille and Namasté anticipate offering two weeks next year. One week could be for children aged five to eight, and the other for those aged eight to 12.
