Interior doors

by Pierre Lagrange

Interior doors are indispensable; they define spaces and insulate or close off rooms in a dwelling. They are also, of course, an integral part of the décor, and whether swinging, sliding, folding or retractable, we choose them according to their strength and their design.

For some rooms, including bathrooms and bedrooms, full doors are chosen to maintain privacy. For the living room and dining room, the choice is often a glazed door – a door with glass – to allow the passage of light.

Swinging doors are the most widespread by far. They should be avoided, however, in small spaces. There is a growing demand for sliding doors. Sliding along a high upper rail and with a guide along the bottom, these take less space by saving the distance required for the door to swing open.

At the lower end of the range, there are the hollow-core doors. They are both less expensive and weaker: the core of the door is made of corrugated cardboard and air; they sound empty and are more fragile than a solid-core, or wood, door

Here’s a small selection of the interior doors offered in-store or by special order at Rona Forget.
