Board games, you say…?

By Manuela Brassard-Erba

In the past several years there’s been a huge growth of interest in board games. Which is a good thing, because the number of games available is growing exponentially with the arrival of more than 1,000 new games on the market annually.

In 2009, a group of enthusiasts decided to make the field better known and created a competition whose aim is to choose the year’s best board games available in the Québec market. While everyone probably knows about the Jutras, the Félix and other awards in the fields of the arts and culture, few know about “Les Trois Lys”, which now focuses on finding the best game for children, for the general public and for enthusiastic players.

The winners of the 2018 awards were announced recently:

While classic games such as Monopoly, Risk and Clue are still very popular, don’t hesitate to venture into the variety available in specialized shops. There are games for every taste, age and type. In the Carpe Diem bookstore, you can get good advice that will allow you to spend memorable times with friends or family, laughing, thinking or talking around a game that suits your needs perfectly.

In Mont-Tremblant, you can take part in Mardi Impair et Jeux evenings – Odd Tuesdays and Games evenings – which are held every odd-numbered Tuesday at the Microbrasserie St-Arnould, 435 rue des Pionniers, from  6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

It’s free and the atmosphere is friendly, whether you’re solo or accompanied. The Samuel-Ouimet library also has a good selection of games that can be used on-site when the library is open. So no more excuses: stow your tablet, collect your friends and come play!
