Spring has sprung… Extend your season!

With warmer weather just around the corner, take advantage of spring conditions and extend your season. Spring is a great time to put on some extra miles, but it also poses a new set of conditions that require adaptation.

When it’s icy…

The cold nights and warmer days make great maple syrup, but this “melt-freeze” cycle means that most mornings will involve icy conditions. Like driving, the key on the ice is quality steering and a light touch. Guide the skis into the turns using your legs, and keep the start of the turn round to give the skis a chance to grip.

When it’s slushy…

As the day warms up and the snow becomes easier to grip, explore the mountain and gain confidence. Play with bumps and rollers, and use them to make the transition between turns easier. As the temperature climbs get your feet closer, maintain momentum, and glide in the slush.

Keep your skis tuned by a good local shop, edges for grip and wax for glide. Remember spring conditions bring out many skiers, so stay safe and observant on the mountain and be respectful of other sliders.
