The season’s first Ironman weekend will welcome close to 5,000 athletes registered in the 5150 and the 70.3, the sixth annual such event. Scheduled for June 24 and 25, it will thus have record participation. Professional athlete Magali Tisseyre, spokesperson for the Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant since the first such event, will be present.

5150

One of the advantages of the 5150 is the fact that it offers two different triathlon formats: the Sprint and the Olympic. The Sprint formula, which allows participants to ease into this kind of event, offers a course slightly over 25 km in length, whereas the Olympic distance is 51.5 km.

Among the world’s most beautiful 70.3s

According to event spokesperson Magali Tisseyre, the world elite of the triathlon describes the Subaru Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant course as being one of the world’s most beautiful. More than 3,000 participants are registered for this sixth annual event. The triathletes must cover 70.3 miles (113.1 km): swimming 1.9 km, cycling 90 km and running 21.1 km. The official start will be at 7 a.m., again at the Beach and Tennis Club.

Magali Tisseyre will be a participant

The professional athlete, who recently decided to live in Mont-Tremblant (see p. x), is pleased to note that the local triathletes make up an increasingly noticeable community. “The community here is growing fast,” she explains. “It is such a joy to see all these people discovering the triathlon. It inspires me, because they are doing it for the right reasons. I’m proud of us,” Magali confides.

The champions

American Holly Lawrence, world champion of Ironman 70.3, won the 70.3 Mont-Tremblant last year. She’ll be back this month and remains a favourite. Ontarian Lionel Saunders, however, who won the 2016 event, was not registered to participate as these lines were being written. We should note, however, that “Lion” Saunders established, last November in Arizona, a new world record for the fastest Ironman 70.3 with a time of 7:44:29
