TVCL, or how to know about your community

The Télécommunautaire Laurentides et Lanaudière (TVCL), our community television channel, begins its nineteenth season this month. This fall, the media channel in which you are the players will resume its work of broadcasting the news from 13 municipalities, which is seven more than last year. New features have been added to this season’s programming and can be seen on TVCL’s new website, starting September 7.

Fifty or so volunteers and a small, devoted team work hard to make the community of Laurentides and Lanaudière better known. Produced and directed by TVCL, the programs are broadcast by Cogeco, as well as being available on the new website of this local broadcaster. Please note that the latter registered close to a 1000 per cent increase in traffic last year. After quietly going online before the summer, the new digital platform now allows full access to the content of the community television channel from tablets and smartphones.

The new season

Fall programming starts on September 11 and will run over 14 weeks. Ten programs, including six new ones, will be broadcast in addition to the council meetings of the towns of Mont-Tremblant, Saint-Donat and Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides. TVCL produces a minimum of four hours of original content every week, rebroadcast by Cogeco. This fall there will be new hosts. Stay tuned.

Programs

The Téléjournal, the program called Tremblantois d’adoption and the English-language program Our Community Connections, which are tops in terms of web viewings, will be back. The program Tremblantois d’adoption will be renamed Citoyen d’adoption so as to cover all 13 municipalities in the territory served.

For the Journal télévisé, the formula will be somewhat modified. Still one hour in length, the program will be hosted by a dozen columnists who will provide interviews with various guests. A bulletin board will provide an overview of regional activities. The bilingual program Table Talk with Jenny is back, as is the story-time program called Il était une fois.

What’s new

There are new programs in the fall lineup, including L’heure consacrée which will cover a range of themes, presentations and events. The first program will air on September 11 and will cover the Sommet économique Laurentides-Lanaudière, which took place in June in Saint-Donat.

A new kitchen show hosted by a regional chef will also be broadcast, as will a series of 15 episodes covering the business community of Saint-Donat.

Lastly, please note that supporting the efforts of our community television remains an excellent option. Just take out a TVCL membership! See details on the website and…enjoy the new season!
