M – Yoga: something new for our children

Since October, children aged from five to 10 can experience the benefits of yoga through sessions specifically designed to meet their needs. The youngsters can take full advantage of the rewards of relaxation and fill themselves with positivity right after classes are out.

YogaThere are many articles on the Internet about the benefits of yoga for children, all testifying to the growing popularity of what is now called pedayoga. Led gently by Magali Le Brech, a teacher of young children and leader of pedayoga, the M-Yoga sessions focus on concentration, breathing, elimination of day-to-day stress and relaxation of the body and mind. Poses also have a role to play, allowing children to achieve better synchronization of their movements. Even the names of the poses are adapted to the universe of children. Here you’ll find the elephant, mouse, turtle, flower, butterfly and more.

“Joie de vivre – the joy of living – is my thing, which is why I teach yoga to children,” explains Magali Le Brech, who has been a teacher of young children since 2006. “I love seeing their eyes sparkle when I invite them to use their imagination. I also take the opportunity to teach self-massage and the importance of feeling grounded in their own bodies.”

With the parents

To reinforce engagement with our children, some pedayoga sessions allow one of the parents to participate. “It allows parents to be with their children, to take advantage of the present moment and to spend quality time with their child,” says Magali.

Flexible formula

Sessions are on Mondays, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. for children aged from six to 10, and on Wednesdays, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children aged from three to seven. While registration is encouraged – and it’s very important to let Magali know you’ll be attending – the formula is flexible and allows participation when it feels right. The sessions take place in the premises of the Mécanique Humaine osteopathic clinic at 990 rue Suppère in Mont-Tremblant. For information, contact Magali at 819 681-4346 or at Myoga.mlb@gmail.com
