The magic of night skiing

Since the end of the ‘70s, Mont Saint Sauveur ski centre – now called Sommet Saint-Sauveur – offers the opportunity to glide down ski slopes that are fully lighted at night. The atmosphere is festive, both for skiers and boarders and for the customers in the T-Bar 70 restaurant who have come to enjoy the magic of this nighttime activity.

The group called Les Sommets runs five ski centres, including four in the Laurentians. This group of ski centres has always provided evening skiing, including Sommet Saint-Sauveur which includes the Avila slope. Les Sommets Morin-Heights and Olympia are also part of this group. Events in recent years have, however, been held at Sommet Gabriel because of the night skiing available there. It should be mentioned that Chanteclerc and Mont Habitant also offer night skiing, but back to the subject at hand.

When the summit is lit up

Once the lights are switched on, the ski centre, which overlooks the lively village of Saint-Sauveur, gives the valley a magical, appealing quality. It’s not surprising, then, that the restaurant T-Bar 70, which provides an impressive view of the lighted runs, is full every night. A diversified event calendar rounds out the evening offering with hosting and entertainment, DJs at the lifts, torchlight descents, parties and outdoor fireplaces at the base of the slopes (in front of the main pavilion). In short: appealing, festive and magical.

It should also be mentioned that night skiing provides better lighting, allowing skiers to take advantage of fresh, groomed snow without having to worry about the mood of the sky. In other words, gliding fans will not have to cope with the well-known “flat light”.

Open from dusk till 10 p.m. every day, unless exceptional circumstances arise.
