Favourite wines for less than $20

To introduce myself to Tremblant Express readers, I would like to present my favourite wines for summer enjoyment, all available in the Cellier section at the SAQ for under $20. And because I love fish and shellfish, I’ll recommend a few wines that are fabulous in lobster season and with those delicious freshwater fish from our Laurentian lakes and rivers.

Domaine Tselepos Mantinia Moschofilero 2016, SAQ Code: 11097485 / $17.50

The house of Tselepos is a pioneer of Greek wines and of the moschofilero grape. This particular white wine offers citrus scents with a floral touch and a slightly salty finish. Excellent and truly refreshing, it is the perfect expression of a terroir cooled by sea breezes.

Domaine Langlois-Château St-Florent 2015, SAQ Code: 00962316 / $16.45

Chenin blanc, a beacon among grapes from the Loire valley, can charm you on its own or with any part of your meal, “from soup to nuts”. It is the basis of wonderful Crémant wines (think non-champagne bubbly) and sweet wines, and proudly bears such great names as Crémant, Vouvray and Coteaux-du-Layon. In this wine you’ll find a finely made Chenin at an affordable price. The attack is fresh, revealing good body supported by mineral notes. It is well balanced and very pleasant with lovely scents of lemons and white fruits. You taste it, you love it, and you ask for more.

François Villard L’appel des Sereines 2014, SAQ Code: 12292670 / $19.25

Finally, an invitation to enjoyment via a thirst-quencher from the Rhône valley. Made from Syrah grapes, this wine combines the savoir-faire of a passionate wine-maker with a grape well adapted to its terroir. It offers liveliness and notes of red berries, violets and spices: just enough to awaken the charm of this wine. Something to enjoy in good company!
