The pleasures of August
Prosper Maufoux Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits 2019
Here’s a scoop. Try to get your hands on this chardonnay bourguignon newly available on SAQ shelves. This white with golden highlights expresses itself through a nose that features lime, soft bread and vanilla – thanks to new barrels.
The mouth, with a mineral touch, is heady and structured for a long finish. Excellent value, despite the remarkable price increase in wines from Bourgogne.
Perfect with large, smoked scallops.

Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Winemaker Ondine Chattan, thanks to her keen knowledge of the soils and climates of California, is a past master in the art of choosing – according to the wine-growers – the grapes making up the vintages she develops year after year.
It should be noted that it can be an advantage to have access to harvests from different places to take advantage of certain characteristics – geology, altitude – which contribute to the organoleptic balance of the wine.
Californian, ruby-red in colour with violet highlights, this wine opens on aromas of perfectly ripe plum, blackcurrant and cherry. The balance – acidity, alcohol and tannins – is good in a mouth-feel that’s both full-bodied and just dry enough to leave room for the beauty of the fruit. An 80 per cent cabernet sauvignon which envelops the palate, and syrah, petitverdot and zinfandel to complete the mix.
To share around a spit-roasted meat.

Argiano Non Confunditur 2020
Another assemblage (mix), this time for lovers of the Super Toscan. The well-known house Argiano (Solengo) offers a well-priced red made from cabernet sauvignon, merlot and sangiovese. The generosity and complexity of the fruity and spicy aromas, as well as the power and elegance of the tannins, are surprising – particularly at this price.
An unpretentious wine to be taken seriously.
