Climate of pleasure

Domaine Marcel Couturier Mâcon-Loché Les Longues Terres 2018

In oenology, the word “climate” can be compared to the smallest of the Russian matryoshka dolls (nesting dolls). In fact, the wine is submitted to a greater quality requirement inside another geographic zone…and so on. For example, “Les Longues Terres” of Marcel Couturier is a “climate” located in Loché – in the Mâcon region – in Burgundy.

In the glass, a brilliant gold colour, complex scents and flavours of pear, white truffle and a slightly toasted woodiness.

Generous body well surrounded by the freshness and mineral quality that would be excellent with a scaloppine à la dijonnaise.

Elian Da Ros Vin est une Fête 2019

Let’s stay within “labels to discover”: the Côtes du Marmandais. This region in the southwest, near Bordeaux, is distinguished thanks largely to the efforts of a talented man, Elian Da Ros.

This fellow’s pleasant vintage, called “Le Vin est une Fête” (tr. wine is a party/holiday/feast) is made up of the unusual grape, abouriou (a native grape), cabernet franc and merlot – those responsible for its richness. Bright with freshness, it holds aromas of morello (cherries), blackcurrants, and small, tender tannins in the finish.

Among friends, this treat would be good with skewers of tandoori chicken.

Château des Places Graves 2018

“Graves”, known as the oldest Bordelais region vineyard, contains the AOC Pessac-Léognan in which are found a number of wines classified grands crus, including the first classified grand cru, the “Château Haut-Brion” – and this is another reference to the matryoshka dolls concept.

Made from two grapes emblematic of Bordeaux, merlot and cabernet-sauvignon, the “Château Des Places”, a controlled Graves appellation (label), offers a revamped aristocratic style. With its well-rounded fruit and typical aromas of violet, black currant and blackberry, it concludes on tannins that melt in elegance.

Allow it to breathe for close to an hour to appreciate it with a juicy roast of beef.
