A tail-wagging walk

When it comes to walking partners, it’s hard to beat a dog. But while your furry friend is certain to get you outside and moving, dogs are not known as riveting conversationalists… That’s why taking a friend along for a walk with your pup is a great idea. It’s a good time to chat and catch up, while getting in some pleasant exercise. While I do not have a dog, I find that tagging along for a dog walk is always entertaining.

Leash up and walk

The dog- walking pilot project launched by the City of Mont-Tremblant this winter has created a pet- and-people-friendly walking trail. Located on the grounds of the former Labelle golf course, the 2.1K loop is just hilly enough to provide a good cardio workout and just long enough to complete when it’s a bit chilly.

There are gorgeous views, magnificent mature trees drenched in snow, and a beautiful well-groomed walking trail. Things to note. All dogs must be on a leash. And as all dog owners know, poop happens. Stop and scoop: this is a no-poopleft- behind zone.

Furry friends with benefits

Benefit 1: Dogs keep you more active. Thanks to Fido, most dog owners walk at least 30 minutes per day.

Benefit 2: Dogs encourage you to walk faster. Unless you are walking with my friend Wendy Allen, many of us tend to amble along at a leisurely pace when walking. Not so with a pup; you’ll walk much faster.

Benefit 3: Dogs force consistency. When you have a dog as a walking (or running) partner, you are more likely to stick to a consistent schedule.

So, leash up your pup and give this new trail a try. Or grab a neighbour with a pup and give it a go together.
