A marvelous musical trip

21st annual Fête de la Musique

Angèle Dubeau, founder and artistic director of La Fête de la Musique de Tremblant, once again invites festival-goers to this wonderful musical event taking place throughout the Labour Day weekend, from August 30 to September 2.

“This annual get-together has been part of our lives for more than 20 years and I still have a lot of music to share with you,” Angèle Dubeau confides during the unveiling of the event’s program, held on August 14 in Montreal.

“Our greatest musicians and singers will be present, ready to celebrate with you on this long weekend in the majestic surroundings of Tremblant. I promise you beautiful encounters and pure emotion.”

More than thirty free concerts will feature great Canadian artists right in the heart of Tremblant’s pedestrian village. One of the outstanding elements of each Fête de la Musique is undoubtedly the concert given by Angèle Dubeau & Friends, on Sunday evening.

Surrounded by the musicians of her orchestra La Pietà, this year the famous violinist invites the legendary Jean-Pierre-Ferland for a musical evening enhanced by words, poetry and love. It should be mentioned that Angèle Dubeau will present, for the first time, some pieces from her forthcoming album, slated for release in October.

An enthralling trip around the world (Québecor Stage)

Saturday evening’s marquee event is the concert by Boogát, at 8 p.m. The Canadian-Mexican musician brilliantly mixes Latin music such as cumbia and salsa with reggae and hip-hop.

That afternoon, you can also see and hear the artist of Iranian roots Sina Bathaie, a virtuoso of santour, and at 4 p.m., those who like to dance the merengue will want to be there for the music of excellent accordionist Joaquin Diaz. At 5:30 p.m., it’ll be Nomad’Stones with its guitars of the African desert in fusion with funk, electro and oriental singing.

On Sunday, the group Oktopus and its Québec Klezmer Balkan Classic can be heard at 1 p.m., and at 5:30 p.m., the singer of Mexican origin Mamselle Ruiz provides an exhilarating concert drawn from jazz, Latin-American and Québec music.

Classical music, jazz, and piano public

The honour of opening the festivities goes this year to artists Colin Hunter and Christopher Hall. Colin Hunter, who sings classics from the repertoires of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett, is onstage at Casino Mont-Tremblant on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m.

As for excellent clarinetist and humourist Christopher Hall – accompanied by the Quatuor Classique – he will start off the musical weekend onstage at the Village Church playhouse (in the village district on lac Mercier), on Friday at 8 p.m.

Activities for all

This year, the Piano public Québecor will feature the very talented Ingrid St-Pierre. La Place de la famille – Ville de Mont-Tremblant (downtown) is back with an exciting, interactive and fun-filled program. A facility will be set up to allow children and parents to play the new “play and educational” application Mazaam.

Festival-goers will also have the decided treat of being able to see, outdoors, on a big screen set up in the Place de la famille, the new documentary Angèle en quatre temps, which tells the story and career path of Angèle Dubeau.
