A shoe repairer looking for a successor

Cobbler Bruno Roland loves his craft and is ready to pass it on. While he has reached retirement age, he can’t stand the thought of closing his business without having this essential service continue. A shoe repairer for 30 years, he has never been bored since he set up shop on the rue de Saint-Jovite in 2010; he believes the location is ideal for serving several satellite villages.

Bruno learned his craft from his friend Bob, a cobbler from Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. Now he wants to pass the torch to the next person, using the same formula: a year of training in the workshop-store, pay according to the work done, a transfer of knowledge and then purchase of the business.

What he’s looking for in an apprentice is resourcefulness, being good with people, attention to detail and a firm conviction that this craft is useful to society and will be so for a long time. When he started this second career at the age of 40, Bruno wanted to change the image of the cobbler with the dirty apron stuck in the corner of a dusty workshop.

He is proud that he keeps his shop well organized and maintains his machinery regularly. “There’s nothing worse than working with poor tools,” he explains, telling how he re-equipped the workshop so it would be functional and well ventilated. Bruno operates the shoe repair shop in accordance with his values of honesty and humility.

He knows at a glance whether an item is worth being repaired and doesn’t hesitate to tell the client when the repair is beyond him. He is still passionate about his work and the end of each day fills him with satisfaction for the work done, with a view of the sunsets as a bonus.

The cordonnerie JB Rolland is located at 1084 rue de Saint-Jovite, in downtown Mont-Tremblant.
