Harvesting Holiday memories

One of my earliest childhood memories is of hiking through a snowy forest with my grandfather in search of the perfect Christmas tree.

Memory lane

The trees towered above my five-year-old shoulders. Coming as he did from a long line of sturdy lumberjacks, my grandfather seemed as tall as a Norse god as we trudged through the wild frosty timberland.

After a lot of hiking and much contemplation (mine, not his), I chose our family tree. I stood back as he took an axe to the trunk. I can still smell the pine-scented air and hear the “whoosh” as the tree fell onto the snowcovered forest floor.

With the tree strapped to my sled, together we pulled it out of the forest. In retrospect, I think that mostly my grandfather pulled. I cheered.

Almost sixty years later, that hike with my grandfather is a memory imprinted onto my very soul. It is a Christmas adventure I shall never forget.

Creating traditions

We have the opportunity in Mont-Tremblant to make similar Christmas memories that will never be forgotten.

Les Serres Arundel has been growing Christmas trees for thirty years. Again, this year, the Provost family invite you to kindle your Christmas spirit by harvesting your Holiday tree direct from its fields in Arundel.

You provide the manpower; the farm provides the tools. Bring a sled and pull your tree out yourself, or toss it on the tractor and their crew will deliver it back to your vehicle.

Make it a generational outing. Bring your kids and your parents. Share a hike through a pine forest. Spend time together outdoors in the crisp December air. Together, find that perfect Holiday tree.

There was magic in that snowy hike with my grandfather decades ago. Immerse yourself in the magic this season. You will remember it for a lifetime.
