Take a walk on the high side in 2020

The MRC des Laurentides (regional county municipality of the Laurentians) and the German company Erlebnis Akademie AG (EAK) will partner to create a super-elevated walkway and activity tower on the site of Saint-Faustin-Lac-Carré’s former pisciculture(fish farm).

With the goal in mind of providing people with a new tourist attraction, the MRC des Laurentides and EAK state their intention of carrying out the project called Treetop Trail (Sentier des cimes) – a first in North America. It’s a walkway at treetop canopy height and a tower forty metres tall. The walkway, 700 to 750 metres in length, starts from the main building and ends at the observation tower.

The educational aspect of the project extends throughout the site: the main building and walkway will feature informative pieces on the history of the location and of forest products – in particular, edible forest products from the Laurentians area. The main building will also have a restaurant and offices. The entire facility is planned to be universally accessible, particularly to those with reduced mobility.

As to EAK, the company was founded in 2001 and operates similar sites in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. “The Mont-Tremblant region and surrounding area is perfectly suited to our philosophy of entertaining and informing people by giving them new views of nature, using our unique structures as a platform,” says Bernd Bayerköhler, PDG  of EAK Sentiers de Cime inc.

For its part, the MRC must undertake renovation of the buildings and restoration of the site, with the opening in mind. If all goes forward as planned, visitors will be able to enjoy the new attraction starting in the summer of 2020.
