New at the mountain

Tremblant providing new runs and infrastructure

Tremblant got a makeover this summer. Following a major investment of $17 million, announced in March by Alterra Mountain Company, the members of the resort team redoubled their efforts so as to deliver, by the anticipated deadline, several changes to the mountain facilities and in the pedestrian village.

First off, the Lowell Thomas lift, on the North Side, has been completely replaced by a new high-speed quad lift from the Doppelmayr company. Lowell Thomas Express will increase the lift capacity by 600 skiers an hour. It was a challenging job and most of the time the workers had to deal with difficult climatic conditions.

It’s worth noting that while the old mechanical lift was being dismantled, the team sorted the pieces – including big items like the electric motor and the transmission – in order to recycle them or reuse them as replacement pieces for the Porte du Soleil lift. The diesel motor will, for its part, start its new life as an emergency generator. You can get a sense of the extent of the work done by visiting the Tremblant blog:  blogue.tremblant.ca.

A new run and new glades to explore

The skiable terrain has been enlarged by 90 acres, permitting the creation of a new run and five new glades on the North Side slopes and the Edge.

LTE (Lowell Thomas Express)

Located under the new Lowell Thomas Express lift, the LTE is a short run, two acres at a difficult grade level, and permits direct access to the foot of the new quad lift.

Taïga

This glade, which is rated extreme, can be accessed at its start from the summit  and runs beside the C.B.C run.  This section is representative of the mixed boreal forest and covers a large surface area of 24.5 acres.

Les Vallons

This 9.6-acre glade, rated difficult, is located on undulating land. Tucked away at mid-level of the Duncan run, it can also be accessed easily via Vanier at mid-mountain on the North Side.

Dynagriffe

.Located between the Dynamite and La Griffe runs, this new 17.3-acre glade, rated very difficult, is accessible via the Expo Express lift.

Archipel

This difficult 11-acre section with its islands of trees can be accessed via Rope Tow. The lower section, rated very difficult, is accessible via Beauchemin Haut and the Axel run.

Extension

This new glade at the Edge covers 18 acres. Rated difficult, it is the extension of Réaction and thus permits a continuous descent in the trees. As well, the Réaction glade run has been widened.

The Grand Manitou: enlarged and renovated

Under the supervision of Pete Chauvin, the main lodge at the summit has undergone major renovations which have added 400 seats, as well as a complete reimagining of the food space. Light is the key element in the enlarging work undertaken. Immense windows in the new sections provide a spectacular view of Versant Soleil and lac Tremblant.

Lastly, Tremblant has also undertaken a renovation of the Fourchette du Diable, the chalet located at the base of the North Side, making the north section of the building permanent. An investment of $3.7 million also permitted renovation of all rooms and common spaces in the Tour des Voyageurs, in the pedestrian village.

Have a great season!
