Polar bear parkour

With winter fully engaged, my new friend Gabriel Pelletier has taken playing outdoors to a new level – with a snow-packed obstacle course.

A flurry of fun

It’s snowballs to the wall on February 5 at 11 a.m., on a family-friendly obstacle course laid out on the municipal baseball field in Brébeuf’s Parc-en-Ciel.

For you runners, bikers and Ironman athletes in the off-season, come and join the fun. Gabriel has promised that there will be surprise sections that will challenge even the seasoned athlete.

Designed as part of the Carnaval de Brébeuf taking place from February 3 to 12, the winter obstacle course is just one of many outdoor activities planned for the two-week celebration.

A sneak peek

Winter warriors, prepare to have fun.

To enter the obstacle course, you will climb up a snow mountain, then slide down the other side. There will be snow-packed bales of hay to climb over. You will shimmy through snow tunnels. Scramble over frozen walls. Crawl under icy obstacles. Walk a plank and try not to fall. Run though a labyrinth… and try and avoid an onslaught of snowballs from spectators and fellow competitors.

As you near the end, you will have to use your throwing skills to hit the cowbell and stop the clock. It will be fast, furious, and fun. The entire course should take about ten minutes to complete. So, you can do it once to practice. Once for speed. And then again to challenge friends and family. Afterwards, take a tour through the ice palace. Scope out the snow sculptures. Get warm by the bonfire, and enjoy the community ambience of a winter celebration.

Let’s play outside

This is your chance to try something new this winter. Get outside your comfort zone. Don’t let yourself be your biggest obstacle.
