Nick Prod: Dizzying rise against the current

Like many company heads, Nicholas Latreille rolled up his sleeves when the public health measures were put in place and turned our lives upside down. When entrepreneurs who could do so turned to alternative solutions, Nicholas had to adjust to the fact that there were no more events and gatherings. Not so easy for a company that specializes in events!

Nicholas, an electrician by trade, obtained what he calls, with a grin, a “PhD in parties” due to his many gigs as barman or DJ. According to him, it’s by combining the two areas of expertise that he managed to make it in a field that requires a huge ability to adapt and a lot of ingenuity.

The story

In February 2019, Nicholas decided to organize an event at Belzébuth with Carl Tremblay to raise money to help Virginie Mercier to get through the terrible ordeal that ended in her death. “I wanted to find a way to help them – Virginie and her daughter – fill their GoFundMe. All that gave Virginie an energy boost that she gave me back.

On that evening, Carl Tremblay asked me to be his producer in the Laurentians. And the next day, when I was turning the funds collected over to Virginie, she asked me why I didn’t go into event production and management. Two days later, I had my NEQ (Québec enterprise number), logo, caps and jerseys,” Nicholas recounts.

In May 2019, this Mont-Tremblant guy who runs on challenges quit his job as an electrician to devote himself full-time to his new career. In just three months, Nick Prod produced seven concerts featuring famous artists. In July of the same year, the Ville de Mont-Tremblant asked him to take over the village event after the Mont- Tremblant en Fête event was cancelled.

“It was my first public event. I spoke to the council, because I just couldn’t imagine that there would be no town festival. I had seven hours to develop and present a plan and four minutes after I presented it, they approved it,” Nicholas explains.

Made-to-order events

Nick Prod’s service offering includes the creation of made-to-order private or company events, including the rental and installation of event tents, the rental of event furniture, caterer and bar services as well as artist performances.

But Nicholas doesn’t stop there. Major contracts are also entrusted to him and it’s to Nicholas that we owe the idea, design, execution and installation of the immersive experience of the Hôtel de Ville’s Hallowe’en celebrations, as well as the Zone Nomade that allowed us, this past winter, to order – sheltered from the elements – meals at the foot of Tremblant’s North Side.

“Creating events is my dopamine,” the young man confides. “I work with my girlfriend Stéphanie Roby who, as well as being my events manager, coordinates and conducts the research on décor and the newest trends. She can spend whole evenings researching new ideas, new concepts, original settings. Then I make them happen.”

Versatility and creativity

Today Nick Prod’s list of customers includes such major names as Tremblant (the resort), Tremblant Resort Association (TRA), the Ville de Mont-Tremblant, Le Maître, Château Morritt, the Domaine Saint- Bernard, Tremblant Living, Le Shack and La Forge.

“To get through this crisis, the two of us had to do everything together. The key is to be independent, creative, and able to deal with all aspects of the field. When the family bubbles were authorized, I offered personalized dinners in partnership with Tremblant Living. From then on, we have specialized in the art of the table.”

The future of Nick Prod

Nick Prod’s secret lies in creating links. Today he nurtures the hope of being able to provide a rental centre that will allow the company to meet all the region’s event needs. However, he does make clear that, as ever, he will choose quality over quantity. He already has in inventory of 16 event tents, a huge selection of high-end furniture, accessories and even gold-plated dishes and tables. There’s nothing too beautiful for an unforgettable memory.
