Saint-Sauveur’s arts festival in virtual mode, free and accessible to all

In contrast to many cultural events, the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur – FASS – has decided to present its program come what may. The goal is to provide performances by famous artists presented free of charge online during the month of July.

Children, in particular, frequently noted by their absence in FASS audiences, will be able to discover, in the comfort of their own homes, some of the best dancers and musicians in the country.

Shared solitude

The 2020 version of FASS will be exceptional, we are told. It rests on a collaboration between Guillaume Côté, artistic director of the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur, and orchestra director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, of the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal.

The program will offer, for the first time, 10 solos created by 10 choreographers to the music of 10 Quebec composers (both female and male), all linked by the crisis and the many upsets that it instigates. “It will reinforce our support for creation in dance and music,” says the festival organization.

Besides being digital and more accessible than ever in Quebec, Canada and abroad, the festival will be presented, each week, through capsules providing a window on the development and work of the artists, produced by film-maker Louis-Martin Charest.

“Twenty artists…20 creations…one voice will rise to affirm the fact that art is the mirror of the society in which it exists and can bloom, even in exceptionally difficult circumstances,” FASS states.
