The most decorated Canadian skier in history was inducted into the Temple de la renommée du Panthéon des sports du Québec (Quebec Sports Hall of Fame) on November 2. Tremblant Express reached him by phone as he was actively participating in a training camp in the Yukon, with his daughter, alpine skier Logan Guay.

The Mont-Tremblant region has a lot to be proud of: it now has four athletes in the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame, Erik Guay is the most recent addition to this impressive list after bobsledder Peter Kirby, water skier Pierre Plouffe and alpine skier Peter Duncan, inducted respectively in 1998, 2000 and 2007.

“I got the call last spring,” says Erik. “At first I thought one of my friends was playing a trick on me. The person at the end of the line asked me if I would agree to be inducted… It’s a bit of a shock,” he continues. “It’s not every day you get that kind of a call.”

Among the athletes honoured during the 31st Gala Induction into the Temple de la renommée du Panthéon des sports du Québec were Georges St-Pierre (mixed martial arts combatant), Benoit Huot (swimmer), Martin St-Louis (head coach of the Canadiens hockey team) and Charlene Labonté (hockey player).

“It’s particularly thrilling to have been inducted beside athletes I’ve followed closely, like Martin St-Louis and Georges St-Pierre,” Erik says. “It’s the greatest honour. When you take the time to check out the list of athletes inducted, you realize that it’s all about the best,” concluded the alpine skier who retired in 2018.
